Concord, N.C. - Two students at C.C. Griffin Middle School in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, are facing charges for bringing and distributing marijuana edibles to the school, leading to the hospitalization of several classmates on Friday.

According to a news release from the Concord Police Department, the investigation revealed that the students who were transported to the hospital were fully aware that they had consumed THC, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana.

Paramedics responded to the school after reports of students experiencing adverse reactions, including vomiting, nausea, and dizziness. An unknown number of students were treated at the scene, and seven were subsequently transported to Atrium Health Cabarrus for further medical attention.

In a separate incident at C.C. Griffin Middle School on the same day, school administration collaborated with the police department to investigate an alleged assault on a school resource officer.

City of Concord spokesperson Lindsay Manson reported that the officer employed a Taser after a student repeatedly punched him, including strikes to the head. Manson stated that charges against the student were being filed with the Department of Juvenile Justice.
