Victor-Hugo School Embarks on a Journey of Sport and Citizenship
In anticipation of the Easter break, École Victor-Hugo in Tarbes launched its "Olympic Week," a spirited initiative designed to ignite a passion for sports among the young and instill the values of good citizenship within the school community.
This year, numerous schools in Tarbes have been designated as "Génération 2024" institutions, affording countless students the opportunity to experience the thrill of the Olympic and Paralympic Games firsthand.
Armed with equipment graciously provided by the city's sports department, including archery gear, rugby balls, and fencing equipment, and fueled by the enthusiasm of the students, their teachers, and dedicated volunteers, Victor-Hugo School meticulously prepared for its own Olympic Games.
For a week, the school transformed its after-school program into a vibrant Olympic hub. On Tuesday evening, children engaged in a spirited chess tournament. Thursday and Friday evenings were dedicated to engaging parents in the festivities. On Thursday, an exhibition and interactive games showcasing the continents represented by the Olympic rings fostered a convivial and educational atmosphere.
Friday evening was a celebration of sportsmanship and athleticism. The symbolic Olympic flame was lit, and the teams proudly presented themselves. The CM2 students from the red team led all participants in a warm-up routine.
Each class then took center stage to showcase its prowess in a chosen sport. The CP students from the black team exhibited their basketball skills, while the CE1 students from the green team put on an impressive display of relay racing. The CE2 students from the yellow team tackled rugby with gusto, and the CM1 students from the blue team demonstrated their tennis abilities.
But the spectacle didn't end there. After each class's sport demonstration, it was time for the "Olympic Dance." Even parents joined in the fun, creating a convivial ambiance. The evening culminated in a "play point" featuring archery, rugby, throwing, fencing, athletics, and badminton stations. It was a moment of shared joy and camaraderie for children and parents alike.
The Olympic Week at École Victor-Hugo has been a resounding success, fostering a love of sports, promoting healthy competition, and instilling the values of teamwork, fair play, and respect. It has also brought the school community together in a spirit of unity and celebration.
The school and the city of Tarbes are committed to continuing this legacy of promoting sports and citizenship, ensuring that the Olympic spirit lives on long after the flame has been extinguished.
