Nature Takes Center Stage for Sant Jordi Celebrations in Baillestavy

Baillestavy, France - April 29, 2024 - The Association Els Amics de Vallestavia and the municipal library have invited two nature-focused authors to celebrate Sant Jordi.

Myriam Pied, a botanist from Cerdanya renowned for her nature walks, presented her journey and the encounters that have shaped her life. Through a process of gathering and experimentation, primarily culinary, her book "15 Edible Wild Plants of Spring in Catalonia" showcases her botanical research since 2014. Each plant receives three pages dedicated to its identification, uses, potential confusions, and recognized medicinal properties. This book will soon be joined by a cookbook, as "wild plants contain the highest concentration of micronutrients." Moreover, their flowers add vibrant colors, flavors, and antioxidants to dishes.

Rémi Huot, an ornithologist by training, provided a more spiritual approach. Sheltering in an orri in the Madre mountain range, he immersed himself in the changing seasons, allowing nature to guide his experiences. His book "Journal of a Mountain," published by Le Mot et le Reste, captures the beauty and wonder he witnessed.

"I found everything that nourished my soul rather than my body in nature," Huot explained. "My approach was spiritual, complementing my daily life."

Retreating into solitude and silence, Huot listened to his inner voice and witnessed the arrival of spring. "We are overwhelmed! It is happening everywhere! Naturalists can no longer keep up. Spring is a rising tide of green. Not a single shade is identical, yet such harmony exists."

From the first marmots to the first gentian, Huot's journal celebrates the subtle yet profound experiences of the four seasons. His writing reflects a profound understanding of the interconnectedness of nature and the human spirit.

Els Amics de Vallestavia and the Municipal Library's Commitment to Nature

Els Amics de Vallestavia is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the natural and cultural heritage of Vallestavia, a commune in the Pyrenees-Orientales region of France. The association organizes a variety of events and activities throughout the year, including nature walks, workshops, and exhibitions.

The municipal library of Baillestavy is an integral part of the village's cultural life. It offers a wide range of books, DVDs, and other resources for residents of all ages. The library also hosts a variety of events, including author readings, book clubs, and children's programs.

The invitation of Myriam Pied and Rémi Huot to Baillestavy for Sant Jordi is a testament to the village's commitment to nature and the importance of sharing knowledge and experiences that promote a deeper connection to the natural world.
