Ripple and the SEC's Ongoing Legal Battle Might Be Coming to an End

The ongoing saga of Ripple (CRYPTO: XRP) and the SEC might be nearing its end, with new hints suggesting the regulator could drop its appeal, at least according to former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci.

What Happened: The lawsuit, which started in 2020, saw the SEC sue Ripple for illegally selling XRP as an unregistered security.

Last year, Judge Analisa Torres ruled in part of the case that XRP sales on exchanges were not securities transactions, marking a partial victory for Ripple. Despite this win, the SEC decided to appeal against Judge Torres’s decision early in 2025.

Now, as the White House Crypto Summit approaches, rumors have swirled about the SEC potentially dropping its appeal. Scaramucci, a known cryptocurrency investor, alluded to this possibility in his recent interview with Blockware.

“I think it’s going to be a factor in them, hopefully, dropping the appeal. I’m not trying to put words in Gensler’s mouth, but I think it’s going to be a good thing for the administration, for the White House to have that conversation with the industry leaders.”

The upcoming crypto summit is expected to be a crucial event for the future of crypto in the U.S., especially with discussions around a U.S. Crypto Strategic Reserve Asset on the agenda.

This summit could also play a role in future crypto regulations.

What’s Next: After a recent surge to $3.00, XRP has seen some volatility. The crypto is currently down from recent highs of $3.00, after previously trading as low as $2.21.

At the time of writing, XRP is up around 0.1% in the last 24 hours, trading at $2.50. Its price ranges between $2.42 and $2.54 over the period.

One analysis by EGRAG CRYPTO predicts that XRP could reach $27-$33 by May 2025, based on a similar pattern to its 2017 price cycle.
