Kenyans Unable to Purchase Kenya Power Tokens via Safaricom’s M-Pesa Due to Technical Problems

Kenyans trying to buy Kenya Power tokens through Safaricom's M-Pesa are currently unable to do so.

Customers have been flagging technical hitches since around 6 pm, an issue that has remained unresolved over two hours later.

Those on M-Pesa have been receiving error messages like, “Transaction failed, M-PESA cannot complete payment of Ksh50.00 to KPLC PREPAID. Please try again shortly.”

Lucky are those receiving the error message; a good number of M-Pesa customers are not getting any messages at all after trying to buy electricity tokens.

Reaching out to the power company, they have acknowledged the issue publicly stating, ” We are working to resolve a hitch, which is causing delays in vending of prepaid tokens. Apologies for the inconvenience caused.”

Kenya Power does have other digital payment partners including Equitel, Airtel Money Co-op Bank and KCB Bank. These other platforms are working seamlessly for now. Notably, buying Kenya Power Tokens through Airtel money comes at no extra charge.
