Cronos (CRO) Mainnet is gearing up for the Pallene upgrade, aimed at enhancing transaction processing and leveraging the latest Cosmos SDK and CometBFT.
The Cronos (CRO) Mainnet is set to undergo a major upgrade, dubbed 'Pallene', aiming to introduce parallel transaction processing and other enhancements. This upgrade will be powered by the latest Cosmos SDK and CometBFT innovations, Cronos Labs announced.
The Pallene upgrade is slated to take place at block height 17,155,000, which is estimated to occur on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 6 AM GMT (2 PM HKT/SGT). The precise timing of the upgrade is dependent on the rate of block production, and stakeholders can monitor the estimated time on the Cronos Explorer.
During the upgrade, the Cronos network will experience a downtime of approximately 60 minutes. This pause will impact all Cronos services, including the mainnet network, public RPCs, Explorer, and Cronos bridge, which will be temporarily halted and resumed after the upgrade.
Impact on End-users
For end-users, the chain will be upgraded at precisely block height 17,155,000. Once this upgrade block height is reached, node operators are required to update their node binaries to remain in sync with the chain. The network will pause briefly until the majority of validators have completed their upgrades to ensure that all data remains intact.
Instructions for Node Operators
Node operators should prepare to upgrade to the latest 'cronosd' binary version 1.4.0 once the target block height is achieved. It is important to note that upgrading to this version before reaching the specified block height will render nodes incompatible. Detailed upgrade instructions can be found in the official upgrade guide.
For any inquiries or assistance regarding this upgrade, stakeholders are advised to join the Cronos team in the #cronos-mainnet channel on the Cronos Discord server.
This upgrade is part of Cronos Labs' ongoing efforts to enhance network performance and scalability, paving the way for further developments within the blockchain ecosystem.
