Doaa, the witness who discovered the note, does not consider herself a hero but expressed pride in having played a role in saving the victim. Doaa and her partner, Kevin, were returning home along an unfamiliar street when they noticed a piece of paper lying on the ground. While most pedestrians might have ignored it, the couple realized something was written on it. The note read, "Help me. Please call the police. I'm being held captive."

"We thought it was improbable that we would come across such a note, which seemed to have been stepped on," Doaa told RMC. The author of the note had also included her first name and address. "At first, when you find something like that, you wonder if it's a bad joke, but it wasn't a joke at all," testified the young woman.
