The Reds made it two solid showings against two Kiwi sides as they followed up their ‘Golden Point’ defeat at the hands of the Blues with a 33-28 win over the Crusaders. While this isn’t exactly a vintage ‘Saders outfit, the Reds were still good value for the win with their attacking looking extremely dangerous on turnover ball. And while their defence was leaky at times, they did front up in the final six minutes when the Crusaders were throwing everything at them.

All Blacks winger Mark Telea was once again lethal with ball-in-hand as he bagged a brace while the rest of the Blues tries came from close-range carries.

Of the two sides, the Highlanders are in a more commanding position on the log as they lie in seventh place but they are only six points ahead of the Crusaders who sit in tenth.

The Crusaders’ short-lived renaissance ended last weekend as they were unable to back up their 39-0 Round 10 win over the Rebels as they went down 28-33 at home to the Reds. They once again played in fits at starts, allowing the Reds to build up an early lead before hitting back. They then did the same in the second stanza but couldn’t overturn the Reds’ lead, having to settle for a losing bonus point from the fixture.

The Brumbies ran out 40-16 victors, in a dominant performance, when the two sides met earlier this term.

While they did have moments in their Round 10 game against the Chiefs – which they lost 22-38 – the same cannot be said of their clash with the Hurricanes last weekend, which saw them thoroughly outclassed in a one-sided fixture that ended 41-12 in favour of the men from Wellington.

For the Force, their play-off aspirations are all but mathematically over with the men from Perth only able to muster up two victories thus far, while the Drua are well in the mix having on double the amount as the Force.

It was a real gut punch for the Force, who had put up a real fight in a 7-6 defeat to the Highlanders a week prior and beaten the Crusaders the round before that.
