How to watch the IIHF World Junior Championship Gold Medal Game: USA vs. Finland | Channel, stream, preview

The United States will try to make history and avenge its only loss at the 2025 world junior hockey championship when it faces Finland in Sunday's gold-medal game in Ottawa (7:30 p.m. ET, NHL Network).

The Americans, who have never won gold on home ice at the world juniors, will be looking to become the first team to go undefeated in regulation and win the tournament since Canada did it in 2015.

The defending champion Americans lost 4-3 in overtime to Finland in the third game of the preliminary round. They have been perfect since then, beating Canada, Switzerland (quarterfinals) and Czechia (semifinals) to reach the championship game.

Finland, which won bronze last year, has won five games in a row. It beat Latvia, Austria (preliminaries), Germany (round of 16), Sweden (quarterfinals) and Czechia (semifinals).

Finland is looking for its fifth gold medal at the world juniors, which would move it into a tie with Sweden for third all-time behind Canada (21) and the Soviet Union (13).

The United States has seven gold medals at the world juniors, which is fourth all-time behind Canada, the Soviet Union and Finland.

The Americans are led by No. 1 overall NHL draft pick Connor Bedard, who has 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in six games. He is tied for the tournament lead in scoring with Sweden forward Leo Carlsson, who will miss the gold-medal game due to injury.

Finland is led by No. 2 overall NHL draft pick Joakim Kemell, who has 11 points (six goals, five assists) in six games. He is tied for fourth in the tournament in scoring.

The United States and Finland have met 10 times previously in the medal round at the world juniors. The Americans have a 6-4 advantage, including a 3-2 overtime win in the 2021 bronze-medal game.

The last time the United States and Finland met in the gold-medal game was in 2019, when the Americans won 3-2 in overtime.
