Notcoin, a viral clicker game, has successfully introduced Telegram users to the world of cryptocurrency, according to Sasha Plotvinov, founder of Open Builders, the team behind the game. The game's immense popularity, with 20 million sign-ups within 26 days of its release, demonstrates the potential of gaming as a gateway into the crypto ecosystem. Plotvinov reveals that the game's original goal was to simplify the onboarding process for Telegram users, attracting millions of players through social interactions, competitions, and squad dynamics.

Telegram's Notcoin Game Bridges Crypto and Gaming, Surpassing Axie Infinity

The viral clicker game Notcoin has demonstrated the immense potential of gaming in bridging the gap between the Telegram messaging platform and the world of cryptocurrency. According to Sasha Plotvinov, founder of Open Builders, the team behind Notcoin, the game has successfully "solved the issue" of onboarding Telegram users into the crypto ecosystem.

Upon its release in January, Notcoin garnered an astonishing 20 million sign-ups within 26 days, shattering records and surpassing the monthly active user count of popular blockchain-based games like Axie Infinity, which peaked at 2.78 million users in 2022. Notcoin's remarkable success underscores the power of gaming as an accessible and engaging gateway to the complexities of cryptocurrency.

In an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph at the Token2049 event, Plotvinov shed light on the captivating story behind the game, which has amassed an impressive 30 million users as of March 2023. Plotvinov revealed that the game's genesis lay in the desire to introduce Telegram users to the realm of cryptocurrency, a goal that the team has achieved with resounding success.

"It just solved the issue," Plotvinov stated. "Or maybe, the task that we all had on how to bring users from Telegram to crypto. So basically, that was the original goal."

Plotvinov elaborated that Telegram's massive user base and the untapped potential of the TON blockchain, despite its "almost zero action," prompted the team to embark on their mission. After careful consideration, they devised a strategy to simplify the onboarding process, removing any potential roadblocks that could hinder users from embracing the world of Web3.

"At some point you just, you know, come to the idea," Plotvinov explained. "All right. So we just need to remove all the roadblocks for the beginning. Then, we need to give something to users so they have the motivation to go for all this Web3."

The Notcoin co-creator emphasized the transformative effect of turning the game into a highly "social thing," featuring interactions, competitions, leaderboards, and squad formation. "It's very, very important for such a game," Plotvinov noted. "And within Telegram, it's really easy to basically onboard users, invite users."

Plotvinov attributed Notcoin's meteoric rise to its viral nature, with 53,000 communities competing fiercely to ascend the ranks and achieve the highest league status. Remarkably, the game's success was achieved without the support of any marketing budget, relying solely on organic growth.

"94% of Notcoiners came from referrals," Plotvinov revealed. "People invited other people. We call them friends. You have friends, you just invite them and you play together, and you can see how they're progressing."

Plotvinov further explained that Notcoin deviated from the conventional approach of trying to convince users of its inherent value. "We just decided, all right, so why not reverse it and think more like 'we're not trying to convince you, it's probably nothing,' you know?"

Notcoin's innovative approach and focus on gameplay have resonated with the Telegram community, catapulting it to the forefront of games that seamlessly integrate cryptocurrency. As the gaming industry continues to evolve, Notcoin stands as a shining example of how games can serve as a powerful catalyst for the adoption of new technologies and emerging ecosystems.
