Writing on the Truth Social platform, the U.S. president-elect said: Paul is a proven leader for common sense regulations
Former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Paul Atkins has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to replace Gary Gensler as the new SEC Chair.
In a statement posted on the Truth Social platform on January 14, Trump praised Atkin's experience and dedication to promoting common-sense regulations. He highlighted Atkin's belief in the significance of robust and innovative capital markets that cater to the needs of investors and contribute to the strength of the U.S. economy.
Trump also noted Atkin's recognition of the crucial role played by digital assets and other innovations in advancing the nation's progress.
Emphasizing Atkin's involvement in the digital asset industry, Trump mentioned his position as co-chair of the Digital Chamber's Token Alliance since 2017. He stated that Atkin has actively engaged in studying and working within the digital assets industry.
This nomination marks Atkin's potential return to the SEC, where he previously served as a commissioner during the George W. Bush Administration from 2002 to 2008. Trump's statement highlighted Atkin's commitment to transparency and protecting investors during his tenure at the SEC.
The announcement comes shortly after the current SEC Chair Gary Gensler disclosed his intention to step down from his position on January 20, coinciding with Trump's inauguration as the 47th President of the United States.
Atkin's nomination aligns with Trump's pro-crypto campaign, which garnered him substantial support from the crypto community.
