Snow, at least a little slushy snow at higher elevations, is possible Sunday and Monday nights.
Snow is possible in Upstate New York at higher elevations Sunday and Monday nights.
The National Weather Service said there is potential for ice pellet showers mixed in with rain and chances for snow, mainly above 2,000 feet, in the North Country.
“Can't rule out some low accumulations above 2,500 feet amounting to slightly more than 1 inch,” the weather service said.
Temperatures won't fall low enough for snow to form in Central New York on Sunday.
There's also a chance for some snow at higher elevations early next week in other parts of the state. The higher terrain of the Tug Hill plateau, the upper peaks of the Catskills and the tallest hills along the Southern Tier are the most likely spots for some wet flakes.
Meteorologists aren't completely sold on the snow idea, but it's their job to point out the possibilities.
“Temperatures may become marginal for some wet snow flakes over the higher terrain of the Tug Hill and Western Catskills, late Sunday night, but confidence is pretty low,” the weather service office in Binghamton said.
After that brief chilly interlude Sunday into Monday evening, the chances of even light snow fade as a high pressure system brings sunshine and warmer temperatures into late next week.
The long-term forecast calls for another warm, wet winter with a little more snow than last year but still well below normal.
