What a Setting!
The iconic Worcester Cathedral transformed into an ethereal dining hall for 200 esteemed guests. The occasion? A grand celebration of four decades of unwavering service to the community by St. Richard's Hospice.
Malvern's Finest Turn Out
Malvern's elite graced the evening with their presence. Local luminary Dan Pallett, the revered BBC Midlands Today reporter and sports anchor, presided as the host. Meanwhile, renowned Malvern auctioneer and television personality Philip Serrell wielded his gavel, orchestrating the auctioning of 17 lots that amassed a staggering £12,000 for the cause. Malvern Mayor Coun Clive Hooper, who has chosen St. Richard's as his mayoral charity, was also in attendance.
"A Truly Inspiring Occasion"
Coun Hooper couldn't contain his awe for the event. "The setting was nothing short of breathtaking, and the outpouring of generosity through the raffle and auction was truly inspiring," he remarked. He highlighted the staggering costs associated with running St. Richard's, an annual sum exceeding £10 million. "The hospice relies heavily on voluntary support, including donations, gifts, and events, as NHS funding covers a mere fraction of its expenses," he noted.
Mayoral Support
Coun Hooper expressed his pride in supporting St. Richard's through his mayoral charity initiative. "We gathered for a delightful Sunday lunch in February, raising over £2,300. And our beloved Mayor's Peaks Challenge returns on May 4th. Don't miss out on this opportunity to make a difference, even if your fitness may inspire second thoughts later!" he quipped.
Community Engagement
Coun Hooper extended an open invitation to the Town Council's Civic Service on April 20th. Attendees will delve into the crucial role of local groups and individuals in fostering community engagement. Refreshments will be served to enhance the celebratory spirit.
Gratitude from St. Richard's
Tricia Cavell, St. Richard's Hospice's fundraising director, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the Grand Gala Dinner. "The funds raised will empower us to continue providing compassionate care to patients, their loved ones, and the bereaved," she stated. "We are humbled by the support of our patrons, including Coun Hooper, who has made St. Richard's his mayoral charity."
May this remarkable evening serve as an enduring testament to the transformative power of community spirit.
