Villagers of Bhoma Demand Urgent Completion of Culvert Work Prior to Monsoon
PONDA, April 24, 2024: Residents of Varchawada Bhoma have implored authorities to expedite the completion of an ongoing culvert construction project before the onset of the monsoon season.
Villagers have endured protracted delays in the project's execution, resulting in persistent hardships. On Saturday, torrential downpours caused mud dumped at the construction site by the contractor to spill onto the road, rendering it treacherous and leading to multiple motorbike accidents in the vicinity.
In light of these incidents, villagers have demanded that authorities compel the contractor to conclude the project with the utmost urgency.
According to residents, the construction of the 25-meter-wide culvert connecting Varchawada to the main road in Bhoma has proceeded at a glacial pace for the past six months. This has hindered residents' efforts to repair their homes, as transporting vehicles laden with materials to their residences has become highly challenging due to the ongoing construction.
Compounding their concerns, the panchayat has also directed authorities to take immediate action to complete the project. Villagers expressed apprehension about the impending monsoon season, fearing the consequences of the unfinished culvert.
The villagers' pleas come amid a backdrop of heightened rainfall activity in the region. They have urged authorities to prioritize the safety and well-being of their community by ensuring the timely completion of the culvert construction.
Authorities have yet to respond to the villagers' demand, but they are expected to issue a statement on the matter in the coming days.
