The Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department has extended the deadline for vehicle token tax payments by 15 days, now set for January 15. This extension aims to provide additional time for vehicle owners to clear their dues and avoid legal penalties.

The department has taken strict measures against defaulters, including the cancellation of vehicle registrations for those who fail to pay the token tax. Penalties of up to 200% of the unpaid amount will be imposed on non-compliant individuals.

Bilal Azam, Director of Excise, confirmed that excise office counters will remain open until 8:00 p.m. to facilitate the submission of taxes. He stressed that failure to comply with the tax deadline would lead to the cancellation of vehicle registrations.

In an effort to ease the process for vehicle owners, the Excise and Taxation Department also offered vehicular-related services at the Trail 3 parking lot on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Excise staff were available on-site to assist with vehicle registration, transfers, and token tax processing.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asserted on Wednesday that despite persistent political unrest and protests aimed at destabilising the government, Pakistan has managed to achieve economic stability and meet its fiscal targets.
