Blockchain security firm PeckShield has detected a security breach involving crypto gaming project Decentraland (MANA).

According to PeckShield, hackers gained control of Decentraland’s social media account on X and used it to promote a fraudulent MANA airdrop.

The scam aimed to direct users to a phishing website that collected information from their digital wallets.

In such schemes, bad actors can steal crypto assets from their victims once they obtain their private keys and other sensitive data.

“Decentraland’s X has been compromised. The phishing site is launch-decentraland[.]org.  Do *NOT* click the link until further official announcements.”

After regaining control of the compromised X account, the Decentraland team notified users that the project does not launch sudden airdrops.

The security breach occurred as Santiment provided a bullish outlook for Decentraland. The crypto insights firm highlighted that MANA, along with the tokens of lending platform Aave and indexing protocol The Graph (GRT), are likely to experience price surges based on a historically bullish indicator.

Meanwhile, the X incident did not impact the price of MANA. The token is currently trading at $0.290, reflecting a 4.17% increase over the past 24 hours.
