Swiss Re has announced that Bernhard Kaufmann will succeed Patrick Raaflaub as Group Chief Risk Officer. Kaufmann's appointment will take effect on 1 October 2025.

Raaflaub, who is also a member of the Group Executive Committee, will retire at the end of September 2025 after more than 30 years with the company. He joined Swiss Re in 1993 and has held various positions in the reinsurance and retrocession units. He was appointed as Group CRO in April 2017.

During his tenure as CRO, Raaflaub played a crucial role in navigating the company through major market events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent natural catastrophes. He was also instrumental in advancing Swiss Re's sustainability agenda and integrating ESG factors into the risk appetite framework.

The appointment of Kaufmann, currently the CEO of Swiss Reinsurance, is subject to the approval of the relevant regulatory authorities.
