The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is continuing its legal battle against Ripple despite a change in party leadership at the regulator.

On Jan. 14, Ripple chief legal officer Stuart Alderoty highlighted the SEC’s next move in its appeal of a judgment against the blockchain firm in a X post.

The SEC filed a brief as part of the appeal on Friday, which comes after a federal judge ordered the regulator to pay Ripple $125 million in August. The SEC alleged that Ripple used XRP as an unregistered security to raise funds.

Now, Ripple is preparing to counter the SEC’s appeal, but Alderoty said the firm will not be appealing the court’s finding on XRP.

“The SEC filed its opening brief in its appeal of the XRP judgment,” wrote Alderoty.

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse also commented on the SEC’s filing, suggesting that the regulator’s approach to crypto enforcement may change after President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20.
