Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asked people to keep away from any attempts to create divisions on the basis of language.

Modi made the appeal while addressing the 95th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan (All India Marathi Literary Festival) through video conferencing.

"We should keep away from any attempts to create divisions on the basis of language. We should strengthen the unity of the country and society. We should be proud of every language of India and respect them all," he said.

他說：“我們應該遠離基於語言建立分裂的任何嘗試。我們應該加強國家和社會的統一性。我們應該為印度的每種語言感到自豪，並尊重所有語言。”

The prime minister said Marathi language has played a key role in the country's freedom struggle and social movements.

"Marathi language has given direction to the country and society in every era. Be it the freedom struggle or the social movements after Independence, the Marathi language has always played a leading role," he said.

Modi lauded the contribution of Marathi litterateurs and said their writings have instilled a sense of pride among the people.

"The writings of Marathi litterateurs have instilled a sense of pride among the people. They have made the society aware and instilled enthusiasm in the people for the country and the society," he said.

The prime minister said the Marathi language is expanding rapidly across the globe and the state government is also making efforts to promote it.

"The Marathi language is expanding rapidly across the globe. The state government is also making several efforts to promote the Marathi language. The new National Education Policy will also be helpful in promoting the Marathi language," he said.

Modi expressed happiness over being able to address the gathering virtually and said he was missing the physical presence of the people.

"I am missing the physical presence of all of you. I am fortunate to have got the opportunity to address the gathering virtually," he added.
