A Stowmarket primary school has been presented with a book vending machine by Mid Suffolk Rotary.

Mid Suffolk Rotary president Guy Wiltshear presented the machine to Abbott’s Hall Community Primary School headteacher Daniel Pettitt and his deputy Hannah Flory.

Book vending machines are a creative way of supplying books to students and stimulate their interest in reading.

They are also a way of encouraging good behaviour in schools as well-behaved students are given tokens that they can insert into the machine to get the book of their choice.

Mid Suffolk Rotary says the machines are an invaluable ally for parents dealing with children who prefer electronic screens to reading.

“Parents often have difficulty in persuading their children to take their eyes off electronic screens.

“Book vending machines are a novel way of getting children to take up reading again. The child gets a token and chooses a book to take home and read. Once they are done, they can bring it back and get another token to choose another book to read.”
