The Buffalo Bills are hosting the Denver Broncos in a first-round AFC playoff game at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y., on Saturday.

The Bills, who are the No. 2 seed in the AFC, are looking to reach the divisional round for the third time in four seasons. The Broncos, who are the No. 7 seed in the AFC, are aiming to reach the second round for the first time since their Super Bowl 50 victory in the 2015 season.

A 34-yard Tyler Bass field goal gave the Bills a 31-7 lead, capping a 14-play, 70-yard drive. Of greater concern was the fact that cameras showed that Bills quarterback Josh Allen had torn the top of the thumbnail on his right (passing) hand. (Bills 31, Broncos 7, 4:37 left in the game)

The Buffalo Bills are one balanced outfit. The first half was a rushing jamboree, and in the second they have opened up the passing game. Of their 461 yards 261 have come in the air, and the rest on the ground led by James Cook (120) and Josh Allen (46).

Since this game appears to be out of hand, let’s take a moment to consider the color of the Denver Broncos pants and socks, which is making television screens pulse all across the nation. It is generally known as “Sunset Orange,” but this particular version looks more like cadmium, the run off from a heavy-metals bomb factory.

With the Bills ahead by three touchdowns, we can unofficially start looking ahead to an incandescent matchup in the divisional round: Bills vs. Ravens, Josh Allen vs. Lamar Jackson. The most thrilling quarterbacks in the NFL, the players who traded MVP favorite status back and forth all season, will play with an AFC title berth on the line.

Those were two sharp cuts by Curtis Samuel — his feet left a mark of Zorro in the turf on his way to end zone for the 55-yard TD.

Bills make it a 28-7 fourth-quarter lead

The Bills opened the fourth quarter with what seemed as if it would be a game-breaking play. On third and six at the Buffalo 45, Josh Allen found Curtis Samuel with a nice pass and Samuel took off, weaving in and out and scoring. That ended a three-play, 59-yard drive. The Bills stand one quarter away from hosting the Baltimore Ravens next week, taking a 21-7 lead into the fourth quarter against the Broncos. They’ve dominated every phase but only broke through to gain a two-score lead with just over three minutes left in the third quarter. (Bills 21, Broncos 7, 15:00 left in the fourth quarter)

Ty Johnson’s amazing catch gives Bills a two touchdown lead

Ty Johnson snagged a pass from Josh Allen just inches from the ground in the end zone, giving Buffalo 21-7 lead in the third quarter. The pass play came on fourth down and Johnson remarkably got both hands under the ball as he fell at the back of the end zone. Buffalo converted on the two-point pass attempt. Bills running back Ray Davis showed “the fencing response” after that hit to helmet — a terrifying thing to see — his arms unnaturally upright and flexed at the elbows as he was outstretched on the ground. It’s an involuntary response indicative of a concussion.

There is only one statistic right now in which the Bills and Broncos are close: the score. Otherwise the Bills are dominating — time of possession, total yards, rushing yards. You feel like a knockout punch has to come soon.
