Popular Altcoin Project Worldcoin to Test Facial Recognition Technology!

Proof-of-Humanity project Worldcoin (WLD) announced on Friday that it will test facial recognition technology for World App users.

According to a statement from the project, the new feature is “a special 1:1 face comparison that ensures that only the person who verifies their World ID on a globe can access the World App.” The introduction of this measure is designed to increase the security of people who use the app for tools such as online purchases, financial transactions and secure login practices.

The World App digital wallet is currently used by around 15 million people worldwide. About 6.7 million users have officially verified their “personality” using Worldcoin’s iris scanning orbs, the organization said.

Worldcoin allocates WLD tokens to people who scan their eyeballs to prove their personality and create a World ID. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is behind Tools For Humanity, the primary developer behind the altcoin project.

Worldcoin said it will initially pilot facial recognition through the World App in select locations.

**Altcoin price performance**

Amid these developments, WLD price continues to head north. The altcoin saw a double-digit increase due to the positive sentiment in the market. At the time of writing, WLD was trading at $1.62, up over 11% on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, the token’s trading volume also saw a notable increase of 55%. This reflects the interest of investors and traders in the token.

Worldcoin struggles with scrutiny

Worldcoin's recent efforts fit into its broader strategy to improve the altcoin project's image among government regulators. As you have been following from Kriptokoin.com, Worldcoin has recently gained traction with launches in Poland, Austria and Malaysia. However, the project has at times triggered scrutiny in some other jurisdictions such as Colombia. Last month, Colombia's regulator accused Worldcoin of violating the personal data protection regime.

Meanwhile, earlier in the year, Worldcoin also suffered a setback when it was temporarily banned in Spain. Shortly after the ban, Worldcoin implemented measures designed to give users more “peace of mind” when it stopped the practice of storing and encrypting people’s biometric data. The altcoin project has always maintained that it takes personal privacy seriously. It also says that it only uses biometric data to verify that a person is human in the process of creating their World-ID. However, distributing crypto tokens in exchange for scanning people's eyeballs was enough to alarm government agencies, especially in Europe, where data privacy is a hot topic.
