In light of the dire humanitarian situation in Ukraine, the Norwegian government has announced its decision to contribute significantly to the establishment of an air defense system in the war-torn country. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre disclosed this critical initiative during an interview with TV2, as reported by the University of North Norway (UNN).

Prime Minister Støre emphasized the pressing need for such assistance, citing the relentless Russian missile and drone strikes that have relentlessly targeted civilian infrastructure, energy facilities, and innocent lives. "Ukraine has valiantly defended itself against these attacks, but its supplies are dwindling," he stated.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Norway has committed to allocating billions of Norwegian kroner towards Ukraine's air defense efforts. This funding will be drawn from the Nansen program, a comprehensive aid package that has provided military and civilian support to Ukraine to the tune of NOK 75 billion over five years.

Latvia has recently expressed its readiness to supply Ukraine with a short-range air defense system, while the United States is considering sending ATACMS missiles within the coming week, as per remarks made by Senator Joe Manchin.
