The National Bank of Ukraine has issued a new commemorative coin to mark the centennial of Ukrainian Radio

The National Bank of Ukraine has presented a new commemorative coin to mark the centennial of Ukrainian Radio, UNN reports.

"On November 15, at the Taras Shevchenko National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater of Ukraine, a solemn presentation of a new commemorative coin "100 Years Since the Foundation of Ukrainian Radio" took place, dedicated to the centenary of Ukrainian Radio," the statement reads.

After the presentation of the coin, the participants of the event redeemed the postage stamp "New Century of Ukrainian Radio" issued by Ukrposhta on the occasion of the centenary of the radio station.

It is reported that on the obverse of the commemorative coin "100 years since the foundation of Ukrainian Radio" in the center of the composition is the small State Emblem of Ukraine, around which the phrase "KYIV SPEAKS" is repeatedly repeated, emphasizing the historical and modern role of Kyiv as a communication center. This element also depicts a stylized fragment of the contact line and the propagation of radio waves over the occupied territories, symbolizing the importance of Ukrainian Radio in defending national identity and countering enemy propaganda. At the top of the banknote is the inscription UKRAINE, on the left - the denomination 5 with the graphic symbol of the hryvnia ₴ (horizontally), the year of minting 2024 (vertically) and below - the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.

On the reverse of the coin is depicted the stylized propagation of radio waves, the source of which is the dot above the letter "i" in the word "radio". This letter is depicted as a kind of mast, symbolizing the identification of Ukrainian Radio. Below the composition is the inscription UKRAINIAN / RADIO 1924, which indicates the year of foundation of the largest radio network in Ukraine.

The commemorative coin "100 years since the foundation of Ukrainian Radio" was put into circulation on November 15, 2024. It has a face value of 5 hryvnias, is made of nickel silver, and has a "special uncirculated" minting quality.

The print run is 50,000 pieces in souvenir packaging.

The commemorative coin will be available in the NBU's online numismatic store starting November 26, 2024, as well as from distributor banks (the list of which is available on the NBU's official website).
