The mayor of Budapest prohibits the preparation of hot food in the basement of the city

The ban will come into force on 1 January 2025 and the rental prices of the pavilions will not be reduced accordingly.

Il sindaco di Budapest ha vietato la preparazione di cibo caldo nei sotterranei della città, il che significa che residenti e pendolari non potranno più acquistare panini caldi, gyros, salsicce alla griglia, carne impanata o frittelle a camino in questi luoghi.

The mayor of Budapest has forbidden the preparation of hot food in the basements of the city, which means that residents and commuters will no longer be able to buy hot sandwiches, gyros, grilled sausages, breaded meat or fireplace fritters in these places.

In risposta alla richiesta di Blick, l'ufficio del sindaco ha confermato che ai venditori di cibo caldo che operano nei sottopassaggi di Budapest sarà vietato cucinare. I funzionari hanno spiegato la decisione citando preoccupazioni infrastrutturali, affermando che i chioschi e i padiglioni allestiti in queste aree sono "inadatti a tali attività a causa delle loro disposizioni di utilità e del loro design".

In response to Blick's request, the mayor's office confirmed that hot food sellers operate in the Budapest underpass will be forbidden to cook. The officials explained the decision by quoting infrastructure concerns, stating that the kiosks and pavilions set up in these areas are "unsuitable for these activities due to their provisions of utility and their design".

L'ufficio ha evidenziato diversi problemi legati alla preparazione di cibi caldi in loco, tra cui frequenti lamentele sugli odori, sulla condensa di grasso nei condotti di ventilazione difficili da pulire e sullo smaltimento improprio di olio e grasso usati, che spesso causa l'intasamento dei sistemi di drenaggio, progettati esclusivamente per l'acqua piovana.

The office has highlighted several problems related to the preparation of hot foods on site, including frequent complaints about smells, on fat condensation in the ventilation ducts that are difficult to clean and the improper disposal of used oil and fat, which often causes clogging drainage systems, designed exclusively for rainwater.

Di conseguenza, "la cottura in loco non sarà più un'attività consentita in nessun sottopassaggio a partire dal 1° gennaio 2025", il che equivale di fatto a un divieto. Le autorità hanno osservato che i venditori interessati sono stati informati della decisione in anticipo.

Consequently, "cooking on site will no longer be an activity allowed in any underpass starting from 1 January 2025", which is actually equivalent to a ban. The authorities observed that the sellers concerned were informed of the decision in advance.

Mentre la gamma di prodotti alimentari disponibili diminuirà, l'ufficio ha confermato che i prezzi di affitto dei padiglioni non saranno ridotti di conseguenza, poiché i prezzi di utilizzo sono sempre stati determinati in modo uniforme, indipendentemente dal tipo di attività.

While the range of available food products will decrease, the office has confirmed that the rental prices of the pavilions will not be reduced accordingly, since the use prices have always been determined uniformly, regardless of the type of activity.

Non si fa menzione se la compagnia di trasporti di Budapest stia pianificando dei miglioramenti per consentire ai venditori di cibo caldo di tornare nei sottopassaggi. Degna di nota è anche la questione di come, se la decisione aumenta il numero di negozi già vuoti nei sottopassaggi, intendono affittarli e rivitalizzare l'area.

It is not mentioned if Budapest's transport company is planning improvements to allow hot food sellers to return to the underpass. Noteworthy is also the question of how, if the decision increases the number of stores already empty in the underpass, they intend to rent and revitalize the area.
