Countdown's lexicographer Susie Dent has created a charming new word - 'Eufloria' - to describe the joyful sensation you experience when you get given a bouquet of flowers.

The Countdown lexicographer released the perfectly coined term - a play on euphoria - characterising that 'flower feeling', something which has been scientifically proven as a universal experience.
"Eufloria," a charming new word created by Countdown's lexicographer Susie Dent, describes the joyful sensation you experience when you get given a bouquet of flowers, as reported by the Independent.
Partnering with personalised greeting cards company Moonpig ahead of Mother’s Day, the lexicographer has devised the term, characterising that “flower feeling,” something which has been scientifically proven as a universal experience.
Combining both the prefix ‘-eu,’ used to mean ‘good’ or ‘abundant,’ and ‘floria’—a nod to Flora, who in Roman mythology was the goddess of flowers—the word, which is on sale for £30, expresses the unique joy we feel when receiving flowers.
The new word comes after research discovered that receiving flowers can lift someone’s mood for up to four days.
Moreover, eight out of ten people described a surge in happiness after being gifted with flowers.
Further findings include 61 per cent of recipients feeling more inclined to give compliments after receiving flowers, and 77 per cent recognise they act more kindly towards their partners following such a gesture.
To celebrate this linguistic addition, Moonpig has launched a special limited edition bunch of flowers named ‘The Eufloria,’ to spread the ‘flower feeling’ on Mother’s Day.
Reflecting on her contribution, Susie said: “I was delighted to be involved in the search for a word that captures a feeling we all recognise.
“Data shows that flowers have a measurably positive impact on our mood, and ‘eufloria’ gives us an opportunity to articulate that.”
The research also revealed that a fortunate 21 per cent of people receive flowers as a gift from friends and family every few months.
Partners are most likely to spoil their loved ones with flowers, accounting for 54 per cent of floral gifts.
Interestingly, 40 per cent of those with a mum or mother figure admit to giving flowers only every couple of months.
However, Mother's Day marks a notable exception, with a whopping 78 per cent planning to choose a bouquet as their present.
A Moonpig spokesperson added: “There’s something so uniquely special and heart-warming about receiving flowers as a gift, which is why we wanted to create a word to sum up this feeling.
“Whether you’re buying a bouquet for a special occasion like Mother’s Day, or even those ‘just because’ moments, flowers have a way of brightening those personal moments, lifting spirits and making loved ones feel truly special.”
