CELTIC fans are convinced they've found footage which shows the exact moment a Rangers supporter threw a coin at Arne Engels

The Old Firm clash at Ibrox was marred by two shocking incidents which saw Engels and his manager Brendan Rodgers targeted with missiles.

CELTIC fans are convinced they've found footage which shows the exact moment a Rangers supporter threw a coin at Arne Engels

Celtic fans believe they have found footage showing a Rangers fan throwing a coin at Arne Engels during Sunday's Old Firm clash.

The Belgian defender was struck by what appeared to be a £1 coin late on in the 3-0 defeat at Ibrox.

Engels fell to the ground and the match was stopped by referee Don Robertson after the player was hit just above the eye.

The Celtic record-signing was then attended to to by medics and the coin was handed to a police officer who bagged it up as evidence.

Rangers condemned the incident and said they will assist Police Scotland in their investigation to identify the culprit.

But some eagle-eyed Hoops fans have done their own digging and believe they have captured the moment the missile was thrown at Engels.

A supporter who was sitting a few rows up from the bottom of the stand was seen making gestures with his hands - believed to be throwing the object - just as Engels and skipper Luke McCowan had the ball at the corner flag.

Engels then fell to the ground immediately afterwards, leaving Celtic fans convinced they have found a suspect.

Many supporters appear to be making gestures towards the Celtic and Rangers players throughout the clip but there is nothing to suggest others aren't just pointing and shouting at players rather than launching any missiles.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers issued an update on the Belgian midfielder at full-time and revealed he was okay after the incident.

He said: "An inch lower, he would have been [hit] right in the eye.

"It is obviously not great for the game but, yes, he's okay."

Team-mate Alistair Johnston demanded more respect for players from supporters and admitted it could have been a lot worse if the coin did in fact hit Engels in the eye.

He said: “I saw that he (Engels) got hit just above the eye, and it’s an unfortunate situation.

“We’re just lucky that it didn’t hit him right in the eye. No other comment right now.

“I’ve played in some other places in Central America where they throw more than coins at you. You feel pretty safe here.

“Ideally you don’t want anything thrown on the pitch.

“The words and chants, you get through that.

“But you just hope everyone respects the players on the pitch no matter who they play for.

“I wasn’t aware (of anything else being thrown) but it’s something that unfortunately happens.

“If that hits him in the eye then it’s probably a pretty serious matter but I would just caution everyone to be smart.

“It’s humans out there, someone’s son, so let’s refrain from chucking things at guys’ heads.”
