J&K politician Syed Basharat Bukhari demands the construction of a bridge over Fresthar Nallah at Sheikhpora, highlighting the challenges faced by students in accessing the local higher secondary school due to the lack of a safe crossing. Despite the approval of the Detailed Project Report and the release of Token Money, work on the bridge has yet to commence, leading to concerns about student safety and educational disruptions.
Baramulla District Grapples with Lack of Bridge, Hindered Student Education
Baramulla, March 30, 2024: Former minister and respected politician, Syed Basharat Bukhari, has raised an urgent plea to government authorities to construct a bridge over Fresthar Nallah in Sheikhpora, a dire necessity for students to access their educational institution.
In a strongly worded statement issued to the press, Bukhari, the former MLA representing the constituency, painted a harrowing picture of students' plight in reaching their local higher secondary school. Due to the absence of a bridge, they are forced to traverse the Nallah, an arduous task that becomes insurmountable during the monsoon season's torrential downpours.
The situation reached a critical point today when the makeshift culvert used by students to cross the Nallah collapsed under the weight of the gushing water, forcing the school to remain closed. This incident highlights the urgency of the situation, as students are deprived of their fundamental right to education due to the lack of safe access to their school.
Compounding the frustration, Bukhari revealed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the bridge has already been approved, and even a token amount of twenty lakh rupees has been released. However, despite these administrative steps, construction work has yet to commence on the site.
Bukhari voiced his disappointment and demanded immediate action from the administration. He emphasized the need to swiftly initiate work on the project while simultaneously implementing temporary measures to ensure uninterrupted student access to their school. Failure to address this critical infrastructure deficiency will have detrimental consequences for the education of our future generation.
The district administration has been urged to prioritize this issue and allocate the necessary resources to expedite the construction of the bridge. The safety and well-being of students should be the paramount concern, and the provision of a safe and accessible route to their school is paramount to their educational success.
Concerned citizens and educational stakeholders have joined their voices with Bukhari in calling for the immediate resolution of this matter. They recognize that a reliable bridge will not only enhance student safety but also foster a conducive learning environment, essential for academic excellence.
As the district administration and relevant government agencies deliberate on the best course of action, the onus rests upon them to prioritize the needs of students and ensure that this long-standing impediment to their education is swiftly eliminated.
