American Bulldog Owner Distraught After His Dog Was Hit by a Car, Leaving Him with a Hefty Vet Bill

Alan Quinn, who resides in Burdiehouse, told of the heartbreaking incident involving his American Bulldog, Cookie, which occurred at approximately 12.45pm on Burdiehouse Road
A man whose dog was hit by a car is facing a hefty vet bill - and has been left distraught by the incident.
Alan Quinn, from Burdiehouse, told of the heartbreaking incident involving his American Bulldog, Cookie, which occurred at around 12.45pm on Burdiehouse Road, in Edinburgh on Monday October 7.
Following the collision, Cookie has been suffering from night terrors, and now faces medication and dental procedures for two broken teeth, with costs potentially reaching £1,500.
Despite the fact that the driver reported the incident to the authorities, the matter is being treated as a civil issue.
Alan, 32, said: "I walked up the same route I do every day, past the Burdiehouse garage towards the burn and the field on the opposite side of the road.
"I'm often complimented by other dog walkers on how obedient and well controlled she is. She was dragged across the road with her lead still on and hit the side fence and split her two teeth before crawling up onto the kerb.
"She was covered in cuts and bruises. I took her to the vets and she was there for about eight hours."
The dog owner is now appealing for any witnesses to come forward and is faced with the reality that although Cookie's life isn't threatened, her behaviour has changed significantly since the accident.
Describing Cookie's behaviour since the incident, Alan said: "She's skittish around the roads and will jump back.
"I took her to the vets and she was there for about eight hours. By the time the dental work is carried out it could cost up to £1,500 but thankfully her life is not in danger.
"She has been waking up shaking and crying at night which means I'm also not sleeping either.

Alan, who describes Cookie as 'the boss of the house', also credits her with helping him immensely in getting out and socialising, something he finds challenging due to his anxiety and depression.
He further added that they share an incredibly 'strong bond' and fears the incident could have escalated if his young autistic nephew had been with him.
"It could have been so different as the lead was on and I could have been dragged with Cookie, " he continued.
"I'm often out with my young autistic nephew who is around four years-old.
"He struggles occasionally with traffic and I keep thinking what could have happened if he stepped out.
"I'm really appealing for any witnesses to come forward."
Police Scotland stated the incident is a civil matter.
