Lucknow, India – In anticipation of sweltering temperatures during the peak summer months, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has unveiled a comprehensive plan to mitigate the discomfort of voters during the upcoming Lucknow polls, scheduled for May 20th.

Spearheaded by Municipal Commissioner Inderjit Singh, the proposal for a token system will be presented before the Election Commission on Friday. This system, similar to one successfully implemented by the Election Commission of India (ECI) during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls in Jharkhand, aims to alleviate the inconvenience of standing in long queues under the scorching sun.

"With the scorching heat expected on the voting day, we want to make the voting process comfortable for people," stated Inderjit Singh. "We will provide tokens and seating arrangements, so people do not have to stand in queues in the sun. Also, we will improve facilities like seating, sunshades, wheelchairs, and nearby parking."

Additionally, long wait times due to high voter turnout, difficulties in locating names on voter lists, and a lack of comfortable waiting areas have been known to deter voters.
