A former Kaspa’s Desserts site in Canterbury could be set to become a fish and chip shop and restaurant. New images have shown what the shop could look like if proposals are approved by Canterbury City Council (CCC).

Kaspa’s closed suddenly last month, leaving an empty unit in Canterbury high street next to Hardy’s Original Sweet Shop. But now Shawarma Bros has applied to repurpose the Grade II-listed building into a takeaway and dine-in restaurant specialising in fish and chips and burgers.

The plans also include the installation of a new kitchen extraction system to accommodate the restaurant. Alterations would be made to the outside of the shop with an application lodged for new signage which reveals the proposed name for the restaurant, Fish Bros.

With a navy blue and matte gold colour scheme, the new shopfront would feature a projecting sign as well as a retractable fabric awning. The front windows would be replaced with upward-opening windows, while the shopfront would also benefit from general repairs and repainting.

Floor plans illustrate that the kitchen and main counter would be located on the ground floor, with a small seating area for takeaway customers. Upstairs, customers would find the main seating area with numerous tables and chairs throughout multiple rooms, alongside a bar serving alcohol.

Two toilets would also be located on this floor. Proposals for the new restaurant had previously been submitted but were withdrawn in August as the applicant wished to submit this revised and “improved” version of the plans.
