Wyoming Legislature Set to Consider Armed Capitol Bill

Cheyenne, WY - A bill that would allow certain individuals to carry concealed handguns in the Wyoming State Capitol and other state buildings is on its way to the Legislature.

Representative Chuck Gray (R-Casper) is the sponsor of House Bill 156, which would amend state law to allow concealed carry permit holders to bring their weapons into the Capitol and other state buildings, with certain exceptions.

"The people of Wyoming have a right to protect themselves, and that right should not be infringed upon when they visit their state Capitol or other state buildings," Gray said in a statement. "This bill simply ensures that law-abiding citizens can exercise their Second Amendment rights in these public spaces."

The bill would prohibit concealed carry in certain areas of the Capitol and other state buildings, such as courtrooms, legislative chambers, and areas where security screenings are conducted.

Gray's bill has drawn both support and opposition. Supporters argue that the bill is necessary to protect citizens from potential threats and to ensure that they can exercise their Second Amendment rights. Opponents, however, express concerns about the potential for increased violence and the impact on the safety of state employees and visitors.

The bill is expected to receive a vote in the House Judiciary Committee in the coming weeks. If it passes the committee, it will move to the full House for consideration.
