Tezos is a distinctive blockchain platform designed to host and manage decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts. It's structured with a decentralized governance system that permits modifications to the blockchain through community-led proposals and votes.

These bakers prepare, sign, and publish new blocks on the Tezos blockchain, and endorse blocks produced by other bakers. The network leverages the Michelson programming language for the creation of smart contracts, which interact with the network's cryptocurrency, Tez, for transaction execution and gas payment.

Additionally, it's a means of value transfer and is used to pay for gas, the unit of computational effort in Tezos, needed for executing transactions and engaging with smart contracts.
