Leo Caillard, the artist of the famous Runestone, is presenting his NFT collection The Stone on Bitcoin Ordinals
2025/01/11 16:00
French artist Leo Caillard, who is best known in the crypto space for his work on the Runestone, is presenting his NFT collection The Stone. The collection features rare stones on Bitcoin Ordinals, each of which is fully 3D inscribed on-chain and offers multiple functionalities.
Moreover, the stones provide access to decentralized HD stone files via IPFS (HD JPG / 360° video / GIF).
Currently, Caillard is describing the five levels of rarity of the Stone Collection in daily posts on X. The most recent entry concerns the fourth level: the RUNIC stones.
Caillard explains that each of these stones is a fully on-chain native 3D file, and that unique advantages and combination mechanics are being developed to allow holders to evolve their stones over time.
Specifically, the level IV Stones represent their perfect stage of refinement and feature a dedicated “Runa” to obtain exclusive advantages.
“Wisely faceted to enhance their colors and mineral purity, they reveal an inner beauty and surprising power.”
French artist Leo Caillard became particularly well-known in the crypto space after working on the Runestone, a Bitcoin project led by the collector Leonidas.
However, Caillard is traditionally known for his marble sculptures, which are carved in his Parisian studio and can be found in private collections, public spaces, and museums around the world.
In a post on X, Caillard introduces himself to the community by talking about himself and his contribution to the Runestone project.
“Intrigued by Leonidas’s proposal—an artist sculpting a Bitcoin block in a precious digital stone—I joined the project without fully grasping its implications at the time.”
From there, Caillard states that he was invited to participate in the collective effort to create a unique artifact, and that he accepted without fully understanding the significance of the project. But as he began to work on the project, Caillard realized that it was about more than just technique.
“The Runestone is a statement on the permanence of art, whether it is carved into the earth or encoded in the ether. It symbolizes humanity’s enduring desire to leave marks that last beyond their own life and to communicate with future generations.”
Caillard saw in that endeavor a result beyond technique, and instead defined Runestone as a bridge between past, present, and future, to remind that art, in all its forms, seeks to capture the ephemeral and make it eternal.
Crypto ArtLeo Caillard, born in 1985, is a famous French artist who in 2021 ventured into the NFT world, particularly on SuperRare.
Since his debut in Crypto Art, the artist has deeply believed in its power and opportunities, and launched his first NFTs which quickly became successful.
His drops started on SuperRare in mid-October 2021, beginning to sell his works in the form of non-fungible tokens for 3 Ethereum. In just twenty days, the artist had already increased in value, reaching a value of 4.5 ETH. Some of his NFTs have been sold in combination with physical works in Carrara marble, an extraordinary combo that doubles the value and potential.
