These synthetic compounds are widely used in various consumer products, including waterproof clothing, non-stick cookware, and fire-fighting foams, due to their water-repellent, non-adhesive, and heat-resistant properties.

The Director of GESDEC estimates a two-year timeframe for identifying the responsible parties. However, he assures the public that the current contamination poses no immediate health risks.
