Police Scotland are investigating two separate incidents after a coin was thrown at Arne Engels and a bottle was launched towards Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart during Rangers' 2-1 win over their Old Firm rivals.

The SPFL have demanded "severe" action must be taken against those responsible with football banning orders cited as punishment.

Engels was struck by the coin in the closing stages of the match at Ibrox and appeared to be hit on the head.

The coin was then handed to a security officer at the side of the pitch before being bagged as evidence by a Police Scotland officer.

The incident comes after Hart was targeted by a bottle thrown from the Rangers end during the first half.

The bottle appeared to narrowly miss the Celtic goalkeeper, who was preparing to take a goal kick.

A Celtic statement on the incidents read: "We understand that Police Scotland are currently investigating two separate incidents.

A Rangers statement read: "Rangers FC condemns this incident in the strongest possible terms.

The SPFL also released a statement condemning the incidents and calling for those responsible to be punished severely.

An SPFL statement read: "This behaviour is completely unacceptable, and we fully support any steps taken to identify those responsible for such idiotic, criminal acts.

"The dangers of so-called supporters throwing such items onto the pitch are obvious and anyone found guilty of such disgraceful conduct must be dealt with severely by the courts, including the imposition of football banning orders.
