Uniswap Labs, the company behind the popular decentralized exchange, has announced the acquisition of the blockchain-based interactive game “Crypto: The Game” (CTG). This move is part of Uniswap's broader strategy to enhance its portfolio of on-chain experiences and make blockchain interactions more engaging.

CTG is a game inspired by competitive TV shows like “Survivor” and “Squid Game,” where contestants participate in daily challenges and vote each other out until a single winner emerges with the entire prize pot. The game has gained immense popularity since its debut in late January, selling out its 800 slots in just 13 minutes during the second season.

The game has also captured the attention of both seasoned cryptocurrency enthusiasts and newcomers, with around 10% to 15% of its followers being new to the crypto world. This has led to CTG becoming a potential gateway for introducing the uninitiated to decentralized finance (DeFi).

During the second season of CTG, Uniswap Labs was already involved in sponsoring a challenge within the game. This sponsorship was part of a broader engagement with the game that included other notable partners such as Adidas, which provided players with branded tracksuits as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and Wormhole, a cross-chain messaging protocol.

This behind-the-scenes involvement offered Uniswap a unique insight into CTG's successful strategies for attracting new users to the crypto domain.

“We've been watching CTG from the sidelines for a while now, and were blown away by what they've managed to accomplish in such a short amount of time,” said Mary-Catherine Lader, Chief Operating Officer at Uniswap Labs.

“Their dedication to making on-chain experiences more engaging and enjoyable has created something truly special, and we're excited to have them join the Uniswap family.”

The terms of the deal, which involve a combination of cash, tokens, and equity, were not disclosed. However, both companies have clarified that the game will continue to operate independently without becoming a mere promotional tool for Uniswap's wallet or exchange services.

“We set out to build the world's first crypto reality show, and thanks to our amazing community, partners, and players, we did just that,” said Dylan Abruscato, one of the founders of CTG.

“Now, joining forces with Uniswap will allow us to expand the CTG universe in ways we never thought possible. Get ready for Season 3!”

The founders of CTG, Dylan Abruscato, Tyler Cagle, and Bryan Lee will be joining Uniswap following the acquisition, and the combined efforts of both entities are set to expand the horizon of interactive consumer crypto experiences.
