Tyler Glasnow Eager to Return to Dodgers Rotation
Dec 24, 2024 at 01:10 am
In that same interview, Glasnow made it clear that because of his late-season injury, he missed the competitiveness of the postseason.
Major League Baseball has been experimenting with new rules in recent seasons, with the goal of making the game more exciting and engaging for fans. Some of these changes, like increasing the size of first base and banning defensive shifts, have already been implemented and have had a noticeable impact on the way the game is played.
Now, there are rumors that MLB could be considering another major rule change: the “golden bat-bat” rule. This rule would allow teams to pinch-hit with any player in their lineup, once per game, regardless of the batting order.
The rule is still in the early stages of discussion and has not been officially proposed by Major League Baseball. However, if it were to be implemented, it would have a significant impact on the way teams approach in-game strategy.
Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow recently discussed the proposed rule on an appearance on “The Chris Rose Rotation,” saying that he can see both sides of the argument.
“My initial response is that sounds intriguing. But then the other side of me is like, the game of baseball is so reliant on tradition. Obviously, there’s been some rule changes and everything, but you worry that maybe you don’t want to make too many changes too quick. But the other part of me is like, that’s pretty fun. That seems kind of amazing. That would be a really, really interesting proposal. I just don’t know how you iron all that out. … From a business perspective, it’s obviously a no-doubter. From a fan perspective, from the ones that aren’t annoyed by the game changing, I think that’s probably a win. That’s pretty intriguing. I kind of like it.”
Glasnow also acknowledged that the rule could lead to some strange and potentially frustrating scenarios, but he believes that from a fan perspective, those moments could make for some interesting viewing.
“It would depend on the game. Sometimes the best you feel is in the seventh inning and then there’s many times where the worst you feel is in the seventh inning. So it would depend on the specific kind of situation, but it’s definitely on a statistical level, probably not going to be a good thing for pitchers. But I think for the enjoyment and fandom, it would be really cool.”
The rule was initially met with blowback after being leaked to the media, and Manfred later stated that the rule is far away from being a real thing in Major League Baseball.
“I think that there was an idea that was floated and it got reported as being much further along than it actually is. We’re talking about ways to improve the game and that’s one of the things that’s been mentioned, but it’s a long way from being a real thing in Major League Baseball.”
One major downside to the potential rule change is that it could negatively affect the sanctity of statistics, which is something that Major League Baseball has always valued.
