Texas A&M football holds off Arkansas 21-17 to remain undefeated in SEC play

No. 24 Texas A&M held on to defeat Arkansas 21-17 in the final Southwest Classic at AT&T Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies (3-1, 1-0 SEC) won their third straight game against the Razorbacks (3-1, 0-1 SEC) and remained undefeated in conference play.

Arkansas received the opening kickoff and quickly marched down the field, thanks to a 75-yard touchdown pass from Taylen Green to Isaac Teslaa. The Aggies answered on their next drive with a 58-yard touchdown run by Noah Thomas to tie the game at 7-7.

After a three-and-out by the Razorbacks, Le’Veon Moss had a first down run to help set up another Aggie scoring play. Marcel Reed hit Tre Watson for a five-yard touchdown to give A&M a 14-7 lead.

Arkansas tied the game up in the second quarter with an eight-yard touchdown run by Ja’Quinden Jackson, but the Aggies quickly responded with a five-yard touchdown run by Reed to tie the game at 21-14 heading into halftime.

A 45-yard field goal by Kyle Ramsey in the fourth quarter brought the Razorbacks within four points of the Aggies, but A&M answered with a dominant run performance that ended in the end zone. Reed hit Watson for the five-yard touchdown, and the Aggies took a 21-17 lead.

Arkansas marched to midfield on their next drive but decided to punt on fourth down, pinning the Aggies at their own one-yard line. A big run by Moss and a facemask penalty helped get the Aggies out of the shadow of their own end zone, but another no-call forced them to punt.

Arkansas started what they hoped would be a game-winning drive, but Scourton strip-sacked Green, and Jaydon Hill recovered the ball to seal the Aggie victory.

The Aggies will return to action next Saturday when they host Mississippi State at Kyle Field. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
