Telegram Adopts Web3: Sticker Tokenization and Author Donations

Apr 21, 2024 at 08:58 pm

Telegram's recent announcement at Token 2049 unveils a transformative shift in content monetization. Sticker tokenization empowers artists to sell stickers as NFTs, offering them 95% revenue share. Channel authors can now receive donations via the TON blockchain, and advertising revenue will be shared 50% with creators. Additionally, Telegram plans to introduce an in-app e-commerce store, providing developers with new revenue streams.

Telegram Adopts Web3: Sticker Tokenization and Author Donations

Telegram Embraces Web3 with Sticker Tokenization and Author Donations

At the Token 2049 conference in Dubai, Telegram founder Pavel Durov unveiled a series of groundbreaking initiatives that aim to empower content creators and reshape monetization on the platform.

Sticker Tokenization

Telegram plans to tokenize stickers, a beloved feature of the messaging app. This will allow creators to sell their stickers as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), providing them with a novel revenue stream. Owners of tokenized stickers will earn a substantial 95% of the sales revenue, creating a lucrative opportunity for digital artists.

Channel Author Donations

In addition to sticker tokenization, Telegram is introducing a donation system for channel authors. This feature will enable users to financially support their favorite creators through the Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain. However, due to payment restrictions imposed by Apple and Google, a 30% commission will be deducted from donations made through those platforms.

In-App E-commerce

Telegram also announced plans to launch an in-app e-commerce store where users can purchase digital goods and services directly from creators. Developers will retain a significant 70% of the proceeds, further diversifying their revenue streams.

Sharing Advertising Revenue with Creators

Authors of public channels with over 1,000 subscribers can now monetize their content through advertising. Telegram has pledged to share 50% of the advertising revenue generated by these channels with the creators via TON's Toncoin cryptocurrency, empowering creators to earn from their content.

TON Blockchain Integration

The TON blockchain plays a central role in Telegram's Web3 initiatives. Donations, sticker sales, and in-app purchases will all be facilitated through the TON blockchain, ensuring secure and transparent transactions.

Empowering Creators and Reshaping Content Monetization

Telegram's Web3 initiatives represent a fundamental shift in the way creators are compensated for their work. By embracing tokenization, donations, and in-app e-commerce, Telegram is creating a more equitable and sustainable ecosystem for digital content creation. These initiatives empower creators to monetize their talents, fostering a vibrant and diverse online community.
