SHRAPNEL Becomes the First Licensed Web3 Game in China, Built on the RWA Trusted Copyright Chain

Apr 01, 2025 at 10:05 pm

China is set to welcome its first licensed Web3 game, SHRAPNEL, which will be built on the nation's official RWA Trusted Copyright Chain.

SHRAPNEL Becomes the First Licensed Web3 Game in China, Built on the RWA Trusted Copyright Chain

A groundbreaking partnership has been forged between SHRAPNEL, a triple-A first-person shooter developed for Web3 and largely based on Halo, Assassin’s Creed, and Star Wars, and the Trusted Copyright Chain. This initiative will bring the first fully licensed Web3 game to China.

The game will be linked to the Trusted Copyright Chain, a blockchain framework that permits government bodies to certify digital assets and intellectual property (IP) rights, an effort to provide individuals in China with verifiable digital ownership.

The game is set to launch later this year with a unique game launcher designed for the Chinese market, in addition to a marketplace integrated with the RWA Trusted Copyright Chain. This will introduce blockchain-based tools for the compliant tokenization of real-world assets.

In this partnership, SHRAPNEL will introduce tokenized in-game cosmetic items based on its IP, which will be accessible only to players in China. The introduction of the RWA Copyright Chain marks China’s move to digitize real-world assets, beginning with the tokenization of Shrapnel IP.

SHRAPNEL is focused on transparently documenting the legal status of its gaming assets on-chain to create a framework for members of the Chinese government to understand and oversee the collective ownership and trading of digital assets.

This partnership is expected to significantly advance China’s blockchain gaming sector and unlock new possibilities within its multi-billion-dollar gaming industry. It will also serve as a compliant channel for introducing high-quality international content into China’s regulated gaming landscape.

Partnership with People’s Daily Digital Subsidiary

Furthermore, SHRAPNEL has an agreement with Lingjing People’s Game Labs, a digital subsidiary of People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese government. Established last year, Lingjing People’s Game Labs is focused on forming a sustainable gaming industry through platforms for cultural digital certification, digital asset transformation, and game monitoring.

Through this partnership, SHRAPNEL’s localized Web3 game will be distributed in a government-compliant manner. In addition to this, Lingjing People’s Game Labs will oversee the minting, issuance, and localized operations of digital assets related to the game, and these assets will be available for free trading.

Industry Impact and Future Developments

Ken Rosman, CEO of Neon Machine, expressed that this achievement has vast implications for both SHRAPNEL and the broader Web3 gaming industry in China.

“This partnership sets a strong precedent for how decentralized technologies and national regulatory frameworks can work in harmony to drive global growth. We are also excited about the broader implications of this agreement.”

A key event in this collaboration took place on March 8, when SHRAPNEL’s team and investors participated in the ‘Web3.0 Games and International Digital Copyright Cooperation' seminar in Beijing. This event served as the platform for preliminary discussions with Lingjing Game Labs.

By March 28, an agreement had been reached, detailing that Lingjing People’s Game Labs would assist SHRAPNEL in ensuring the compliant issuance of digital assets. The partnership will also focus on introducing new game content, promoting cultural integration, and exploring sustainable development avenues for Web3 gaming.

This collaboration is expected to contribute innovative models for the digital transformation of the gaming industry, with initial outcomes anticipated in 2025.
