Jeon Sung-bae, a shaman known as the so-called "Health Investigation Corporation," was arrested on the 18th for accepting hundreds of millions of illegal political funds from local politicians, including candidates who ran in the Liberty Korea Party (the predecessor of the People's Power) party ahead of the 2018 local elections in Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province.
The prosecution, which is investigating illegal political funds, launched a follow-up investigation. Jeon's mobile phone, known as the so-called "lawmaker phone," was also confiscated and analyzed.
According to the investigation authorities on the 18th, Jeon was an active member of President Yoon Suk Yeol's campaign, then a presidential candidate in 2022, and was suspected of intervening in the interests by showing off his friendship with the president and his wife. The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office's joint investigation team on virtual asset crimes will closely investigate the process of receiving illegal political funds against Jeon, who is under arrest.
Jeon was arrested the day before for accepting hundreds of millions of illegal political funds from local politicians, including candidates who ran in the Liberty Korea Party (the predecessor of the People's Power) party ahead of the 2018 local elections in Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province. Jeon was charged with violating the Political Fund Act.
The prosecution is investigating whether Jeon received money in the name of a "nomination donation." Jeon reportedly claimed in the prosecution's investigation that the candidate returned the money after being dropped out.
The prosecution raided the residence in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and the law office in Gangnam-gu the previous day and seized Jeon's mobile phone.
Prosecutors found circumstantial evidence of suspicious funds related to Jeon while investigating the flow of funds for Scam Coin (fraudulent virtual currency) "Queen B-coin." Queen B-coin was also known as the so-called "X-Sama Coin" for promoting its investment by a famous Korean Wave actor.
Suspicions related to virtual currency are also being investigated, including whether Jeon tried to launder illegal funds with coins. Jeon is also known to have served as an advisor to First Lady Kim Gun-hee's Kobana Content. The prosecution plans to seek an arrest warrant after investigating Jeon.
