Roofs Replaced for Homes Damaged by Storm in Baswagha-Lubena

Baswagha-Lubena, Beni Territory, North Kivu - On Friday, April 12, homeowners in Baswagha-Lubena village whose roofs were destroyed during a severe storm received much-needed roofing supplies.

The distribution of the roofing materials was made possible through the efforts of the Mbau sector chief and a Member of Parliament from the region. The sector chief, taking advantage of the opportunity, urged the beneficiaries to plant more trees in the area to mitigate the impact of high winds during the rainy season.

The donation has enabled the resumption of classes at Madiwe Institute in Cantine-Aloya, where students faced significant challenges in continuing their studies following the natural disaster. According to local sources, some students had to share space in a nearby church, while others resorted to studying under trees, exposed to the elements.

Civil society organizations reported that before the distribution of roofing materials, homes were temporarily covered with makeshift tarpaulins.

The damaging storm, characterized by heavy rain and powerful winds, struck overnight on April 4-5. The timely assistance provided to the affected community will help them restore their homes and create a more secure learning environment for students.
