Palghar, Maharashtra: New ESIC hospital approved, promising access to superior healthcare for industrial workers
Apr 11, 2025 at 07:17 pm
The 150-bed healthcare facility will be situated in Kumbhavali village, strategically located near the Tarapur Industrial Estate in Boisar.
The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has approved the establishment of its first-ever hospital in Palghar district, marking a significant step towards improving healthcare infrastructure and socio-economic well-being in the region.
The 150-bed healthcare facility will be constructed in Kumbhavali, a village in Boisar taluka, renowned for Tarapur Industrial Estate, one of Asia's largest industrial zones. The State Government will provide the essential land for this crucial project at a token sum of ₹1.
The decision was finalized during a high-powered meeting held on April 9, chaired by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, to discuss the transfer of the identified land in Kumbhavali for the proposed ESIC hospital at the symbolic cost of one rupee. Representatives from all relevant government departments present at the meeting agreed to expedite the necessary procedures to facilitate the swift commencement of the hospital project.
The realization of this long-awaited healthcare infrastructure is the culmination of persistent efforts by Member of Parliament Dr. Hemant Vishnu Savara over the past ten months and Shiv Sena District Chief Kundan Sankhe for the preceding two years. Dr. Savara had personally engaged with central ministers in Delhi, submitting a formal request for the ESIC hospital. Their dedicated advocacy has now borne fruit, promising access to superior healthcare services for the numerous workers in Palghar district.
The pivotal meeting witnessed the presence of key administrative figures, including the Revenue Minister, Dr. Savara, Collector Dr. Indurani Jakhar, Divisional Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi, and other relevant administrative officers and divisional representatives.
This development is expected to significantly bolster healthcare infrastructure within Palghar district and expedite the process of social rehabilitation in the region. Anticipations are high for a notable enhancement in the overall health facilities available to the district's population.
Industrial workers in Tarapur Industrial Estate, home to over 1450 workers and recognized as one of Asia's major industrial zones, have long faced difficulties obtaining specialized medical care for common ailments and emergency situations arising from accidents.
The absence of a general hospital within Palghar district has often forced workers to seek treatment at private clinics or hospitals, leading to financial strain and inconvenience. Despite regular deductions from their wages towards the ESIC scheme, workers had to travel to Mumbai to avail treatment under the scheme.
The allocation of land in Kumbhavali, Boisar, brings hope for quality medical services to become accessible to the residents and the significant working population of the Boisar region in the near future.
