Monstrous Mistake? 'Saturday Night Takeaway' Segment Draws Mixed Reactions
Mar 24, 2024 at 03:57 am
During the "What's Next" segment of Saturday Night Takeaway, Ant and Dec performed a comical "Dreadtime Story" while dressed in monster costumes, leaving some viewers unimpressed. Fans took to social media to express their dissatisfaction, comparing the segment to children's television.
What's Next: A Monstrous Mistake?
In the "What's Next" segment, Ant and Dec ventured into uncharted territory, ditching their earpieces and surrendering to the unknown. Little did they know that they were about to don monster costumes and embark on a theatrical escapade under the guidance of Cat Deeley's "Dreadtime Storybook."
Kidding Around or a Case of Cold Feet?
However, not all viewers were enthralled by this whimsical interlude. Some took to social media to express their disdain, likening it to children's television and questioning its suitability for a Saturday night audience.
"Absolutely awful... didn't sign up to watch kids TV," one viewer lamented. Another chimed in, "Kids programs on a Saturday night are a joke," while a third dismissed it as "pretty grim stuff."
Laughter Amidst the Criticism
Despite the negative feedback, the segment did find its fans. "Crying tears of laughter at Ant falling over in his costume, I can't COPE," one viewer remarked, suggesting that the slapstick antics had hit the mark.
Ant and Dec: Behind the Curtain
Meanwhile, Ant and Dec have shed light on their decision to take a break from "Saturday Night Takeaway" after the 2024 series. In an interview with Flaunt magazine, Ant revealed that the duo needed a respite to focus on their families.
"We do the show and then 'Britain's Got Talent,' but on a more personal level, part of the reason we're pausing 'Takeaway' is we need a break ourselves, and we need to spend some time with our family," Ant explained.
A Pause, Not a Farewell
While "Saturday Night Takeaway" may be on hiatus, Ant and Dec are expected to continue their hosting duties on other shows. Their absence from the beloved Saturday night staple is a bittersweet reminder that even the most iconic duos need to recharge and reconnect with their loved ones.
