Siqi Chen, a tech entrepreneur and founder of finance platform Runway, in a post on X, revealed that his daughter has been diagnosed with a benign tumour.
A tech entrepreneur from the US has managed to raise a whopping Rs 3.4 crore for his daughter's brain tumour treatment, thanks to a meme coin that was created in just 20 minutes. The entrepreneur, identified as Siqi Chen, shared his gratitude on X, revealing that the funds will be donated to the Hankinson Lab at the University of Colorado.
Chen, who is also the founder of finance platform Runway, shared an emotional plea on X (formerly Twitter) on December 25, revealing that his daughter Mira has been diagnosed with a benign tumour called Adamantinomatous Craniopharyngioma. He explained that while the condition is survivable, the tumour's location in a "very dangerous area of the brain" poses a significant challenge.
“If you could press a button that cures your child’s brain tumor in exchange for ending your life immediately, every parent would hesitate for zero seconds before fighting to be the first to press it. The cruellest thing is that no such button exists,” Chen wrote in his initial post.

According to Chen, Mira's tumour is a rare type of cancer that affects only one in a million children. He highlighted the urgent need for more research and funding to identify effective treatments for the disease.
“Mira has been under the care of Dr. Todd Hankinson at the Hankinson Lab. They have already begun clinical trials on Mira and expect to slow the growth of Mira's tumor,” Chen added.

In a follow-up X post on December 26, Chen revealed that a crypto user created a SOL meme coin called $MIRA to aid in the research fundraising efforts. The initiative quickly gained momentum, generating a significant amount of funds within a short span of time.
“Uh so some random guy 20 minutes made a SOL memecoin called $MIRA to help with research fundraising and sent me half the entire supply and it's now worth like $400K and I literally don't know what to do because I certainly don't want to rug a bunch of random people,” Chen wrote in the post.

Chen later shared a screenshot of the meme coin's rapid fund generation and expressed his gratitude for the support.
“I just want to say that whoever said crypto has no legitimate use cases, you can tell them that funding for rare disease research is a pretty legitimate use case (again, ALL proceeds from this will go directly to rare disease research at Hankinson Lab, my family and I will keep…,” he wrote in a subsequent X post.
