Maharashtra's election season is in full swing, with voting underway for the state's 288 assembly seats. Voter turnout is expected to rise steadily as more people join the queues to exercise their right to vote.
BJP leader Pankaja Munde is confident that her party will emerge victorious in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. Speaking to reporters in Beed, she said, “I am a member of the (BJP) Maharashtra Core Committee. I have tried to visit and attend as many public gatherings as possible. However, due to time constraints, I was only able to attend 40% of the meetings.”
Despite not being able to attend all the rallies, Munde expressed confidence in the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance securing a majority and forming the government.
“I am confident that the BJP and the Mahayuti alliance will secure a majority and form the government comfortably,” she said.
The polling for the high-stakes Maharashtra Assembly elections began at 7 am on Monday. A total of 4,136 candidates, including 3,239 male, 895 female, and two transgender nominees, are contesting the polls. The fate of the candidates will be decided by 94,109,807 eligible voters, comprising 49,207,080 male, 44,896,804 female, and 7,923 third gender electors.
The state assembly has a total of 288 seats, out of which open category seats are 279, while nine are reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The last date for filing nominations was October 4, while the scrutiny of nominations was carried out on October 5. Candidates could withdraw their nominations till October 7.
The counting of votes will take place on October 21.
