Superior, Wisconsin - Raymond "Ray" Nick Perala, a revered pillar of the Lake Nebagamon community, passed away peacefully on April 14th, 2024, at Essentia Health in Duluth, Minnesota.

Born on April 7th, 1942, in Superior, Wisconsin, to Nick and Viena Ahola, Ray's early life was marked by tragedy, as he lost both his parents at a young age. He was lovingly raised by his uncle, Eino Perala, in Maple, Wisconsin, where he attended school and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1960.

Undeterred by adversity, Ray pursued higher education at UWS, earning a degree in Business Management with a minor in Math. His academic excellence laid the foundation for his successful career in the appraisal industry.

On June 16th, 1980, Ray found true love in Candace "Candy" Nys, who became his devoted wife. Together, they forged an unbreakable bond that lasted a lifetime.

Ray's legacy extends far beyond his professional achievements. He was a loving and dedicated father to his children, Christopher, Cari Ann, and stepdaughter Amy Lynn. His grandchildren, nieces, and nephews held a special place in his heart, and he cherished the opportunity to attend their events and support their endeavors.

Ray's unwavering work ethic and dedication to his appraisal business spanned over four decades. He took immense pride in providing for his family and creating unforgettable memories through countless trips. A particular favorite was their annual pilgrimage to Wisconsin Dells.

Beyond his family, Ray had a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He found solace in the outdoors, planting pine trees and tending to his yard. His love for animals was evident in his compassionate treatment of his beloved Golden Retriever, Ziva, and "million-dollar cat," Flower.

Ray's kindness and generosity extended to both people and animals. He was a caring neighbor and a friend to all he encountered. His infectious smile and warm demeanor brought joy to those around him.

In his leisure time, Ray immersed himself in western films, the Yellowstone series, country music, and coin collecting. He cherished spending time with his loved ones, even if they were "slower than a herd of turtles," as he often quipped.

Ray's passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew him. His family, friends, and community will forever cherish his memory as a loving husband, dedicated father, compassionate soul, and true friend to all.

The Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with arrangements. Services will be held at a later date, with details to be announced. Condolences and messages of remembrance may be left online at www.lenroot-maetzold.com.

Ray's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional care team at Essentia Health, and particularly to Wanda and Reece, for their unwavering compassion and support during this difficult time.
