India, Kenya Joint Forces for Maritime Security and Defense

India and Kenya have agreed to strengthen maritime security cooperation in the Indian Ocean region and conduct joint counter-insurgency training. The two countries discussed capacity building and collaboration in defense industry and equipment. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed to foster collaboration in ship design and construction. India offered support for establishing an advanced CT scan facility in Kenya and presented parachutes to Kenyan forces. Kenya expressed appreciation for India's defense industry advancements and suggested training of trainers by Indian Armed Forces instructors.

India and Kenya Strengthen Maritime Security and Defense Cooperation

In a substantial move towards enhancing maritime security and defense capabilities, India and Kenya have reached an agreement to intensify their collaboration in the Indian Ocean region and conduct joint counter-insurgency training exercises. The high-level discussion between India's Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh, and Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Aden Bare Duale, took place in New Delhi.

During the meeting, the two sides engaged in detailed discussions on capacity building initiatives and cooperation in the defense industry and equipment procurement. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Goa Shipyard Limited and Kenya Shipyard Limited to enhance capacity building and foster collaboration in ship design and construction.

As a gesture of friendship and support, Defense Minister Singh presented 15 pairs of parachutes manufactured by Gliders India Limited to the Kenyan Forces. India also pledged its assistance in establishing an advanced CT scan facility in Kenya to enhance their medical capabilities.

Addressing the bilateral meeting, Raksha Mantri Singh emphasized India's commitment to strengthening its engagement with African nations. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative to advocate for the inclusion of the African Union as a member in the G20 at the upcoming Leaders' Summit under India's presidency.

Cabinet Secretary Duale expressed his appreciation for the warm relations between India and Kenya, noting that their historical ties extend back to the pre-independence era. He lauded the growing capabilities of the Indian defense industry and identified potential areas where Indian companies can provide valuable support to the Kenyan Forces. He also proposed a program for Indian Armed Forces instructors to train the trainers of Kenyan Forces.

The Kenyan delegation, led by Cabinet Secretary Duale, is on a three-day official visit to India. During their stay, they will visit Indian shipyards and defense industries in Goa and Bengaluru to explore opportunities for collaboration and procurement.

This enhanced cooperation between India and Kenya underscores their shared commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Indian Ocean region, fostering economic growth, and promoting mutual security interests.
