A predictable chant about ‘Glory, Glory’ went up from the home supporters who had no visiting fans to target with missiles.
Celtic have hit out at the “appalling” targeting of their players with missiles during the Old Firm clash at Ibrox.
Arne Engels was struck by a coin as he prepared to take a corner in the 87th minute and required treatment on the pitch.
The incident sparked fury among the Celtic players and staff, with Engels left visibly shaken by the ordeal.
There was also a missile thrown towards the Celtic bench during the second half, with manager Brendan Rodgers reportedly hit.
A statement from Celtic reads: “We understand that Police Scotland are currently investigating two separate incidents.
“The repeated targeting of our players and staff with missiles is quite appalling and completely unacceptable.
“This is the ugly side we do not like to see. Absolutely ridiculous. That is disgusting. There is no place for that in football.”
The incidents overshadowed a largely forgettable match on the pitch, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances.
Celtic remain top of the Scottish Premiership table, but Rangers have closed the gap to just two points.
